Meet the Gang
Nine characters, all of them a bit daft. Here's the important bit: they all jump the same, fall the same and get the same warnings. Nobody is faster or better than anybody else. So just pick whoever you like the look of.
-
Sir Clanky
Wears a bucket on his head and calls it a helmet. Nobody has ever seen his hair, and he'd like to keep it that way.
Loves: Chocolate biscuits, two at a time
Not keen on: Heights. Which is a bit of a problem, really.
-
Wizzle the Wizard
Once tried to magic up a sandwich and made a shoe instead. He ate it anyway, because it would have been rude not to.
Loves: A good long nap in the afternoon
Not keen on: Ghosts, and anything that goes boo
-
Twiggy Green
Can hide behind a leaf. A small leaf. You could walk right past him and never know.
Loves: Climbing the tallest tree he can find
Not keen on: Spiders. All of them. Even the tiny ones.
-
Twinkle Toes
Flaps her wings incredibly fast and still only moves about as quickly as walking. She has decided not to worry about it.
Loves: Birthday parties, mostly for the cake
Not keen on: Bats. They fly better than she does and she thinks it is showing off.
-
Princess Sparklepants
Her dress has four hundred sparkles on it. She knows, because she counted them. Twice.
Loves: Dancing, any time, anywhere
Not keen on: Mud, puddles, and being told to hurry up
-
Unicorn Fluffysnoot
A real horn and a very soft nose. Does not say much. Does not really need to.
Loves: Apples, cut into slices
Not keen on: Loud bangs and sudden surprises
-
Blue Fairy
Wears a little gold crown and refuses to take it off. Not for bed, not for the bath, not ever.
Loves: Anything shiny
Not keen on: Being asked to share the shiny things
-
Barky McLeaf
A walking tree with a head full of leaves. Slow at absolutely everything except jumping, which nobody can explain.
Loves: Rain, and lots of it
Not keen on: Woodpeckers, for reasons we do not need to spell out
-
Dalmatian Pupface
Has one hundred and one spots and will happily tell you about every single one if you stand still long enough.
Loves: Sausages and belly rubs
Not keen on: Baths. Absolutely not. No.
How they move
Each character has six different things they can be doing, and each one is a little flip-book of drawings played one after the other:
| What they're doing | Pictures | When you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Standing about | 4 | On a good solid stone, or waiting to start |
| Wobbling | 4 | Standing on a stone that's cracking underneath them |
| Jumping | 3 | Sailing happily between two good stones |
| Panicky jumping | 3 | Leaping off a stone that was about to give way |
| Falling | 2 | Oh dear |
| Celebrating | 4 | Made it to the castle! |
That's twenty pictures each, and one hundred and eighty altogether. They were all made by the same little computer program, which is why nine very different characters still look like they belong in the same game. There's a page about how that was done if you're curious.
